Cargo Human Care – Take off. Touch down. Help out.
Doctors from Germany travelling to Kenya providing short-term support on a charitable basis to improve medical care – Lufthansa Cargo’s employees and pilots volunteering to transport Doctors and to support humanitarian organisations in Africa. This is the vision of Cargo Human Care (CHC).
In the Cargo Human Care Medical Centre in Kianjogu, German Doctors provide medical assistance to 2,000 patients each month who otherwise could not afford treatment. They are supported by local nurses. The Centre’s own pharmacy ensures a constant supply of medicine. In the slums of Buru Buru (Nairobi,) CHC provides outpatient treatment in the SOS Medical Centre and supports local medical staff with German specialists.
Everyday life or good fortune?
The support for the Mothers’ Mercy Home orphanage reaches far beyond medical assistance: In 2008 CHC completed construction of a brick building offering accommodation for 128 children, the youngest being four years old. In addition to school education, they are given the possibility of apprenticeships. The children of Mothers’ Mercy Home appreciate the things we take for granted: a safe place to sleep, clean water, healthy meals, sanitary facilities, books, toys and medical care.
The drought in northern Kenya resulted in a new project; in Marsabit, CHC supports 224 families in two villages through the organisation of food convoys. The next step will be the construction of shallow wells with the aim to help local families to help themselves.
Manageable projects mean effective help!
CHC targets manageable projects in order to provide practical and sustainable support. Your donation enables the long-term planning and execution of projects.
Your contribution helps towards the running of the orphanage and finances nurses, medicine, operations and emergency aid during the drought. Everyone from Germany involved in the project volunteers their time. This enables CHC to keep the administration costs to a minimum. More than 98 per cent of your donations go directly to people in need.
